SBM Legal Assistants Section Considers Name Change at Annual Meeting
9/7/07 The State Bar of Michigan Legal Assistants Section will hold its luncheon and business meeting Friday, Sept. 28 at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids. The event will take place in conjunction with the SBM Annual Meeting, which runs from Sept. 26-28. In addition to voting a new board for 2007-08, section members will also decide whether to change the section’s name to the Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section. The section’s bylaws would have to be amended in order for the change to go into effect. While section members in the past have been able to cast votes for board elections by mail, they must be present to vote on the name change. Friday’s luncheon, which is open to section members and non-members, costs $15. There is no charge to attend the business meeting. Lunch guests should RSVP to KathyAnn Blunck at (231) 486-4526 or kblunck@shrr.com. For the first time, the State Bar of Michigan has partnered with the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, which will present its Solo & Small Firm Institute along with the Annual Meeting. The ICLE legal assistants track will feature three speakers. They are Vicki Voisin, ACP, who will discuss critical ethics issues; Linda S. Jevahirian, whose topic is “the essential legal assistant;” and Charlene Tope, who will talk about client relations. The complete SBM Annual Meeting schedule of events, registration form, and a $40 voucher for Legal Assistants Section members can be found at www.michbar.org/legalassistants/annualmeeting.cfm. ### |
