Free Veterans’ Benefits Law Training Session in Macomb County Set for Jan. 22

A free training session for attorneys interested in helping veterans with legal issues regarding disability and pension benefits is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the CEO Center in Mount Clemens.

The seminar will cover the process for obtaining veterans’ benefits, explain the reasons many claims are denied, and discuss methods of appealing claim denials at the Board of Veterans Appeals and the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Attorneys will also learn effective advocacy strategies in the Veterans Affairs system and be briefed on recent developments in the area of veterans’ law.

Continental breakfast and lunch are also included at no charge. In exchange for attending the free training, participating attorneys will be asked to accept at least one veterans’ law case on a pro bono basis. The event is sponsored by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s Project SALUTE, the Macomb County Bar Association, and the State Bar of Michigan.
