The State Bar of Michigan Pro Bono Initiative is hosting a one-day training on Thursday, May 21 for people who handle pro bono clients. The training is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the SBM building in downtown Lansing.
Non-profit directors, pro bono managers, coordinators, their staff, and community members who work with pro bono cases are invited to the free event, which also includes lunch. Topics to be covered will include developing and fostering pro bono models, administrative oversight, and building successful relationships with volunteers.
Cheryl Zalenski, director of the American Bar Association Center for Pro Bono, is the featured guest speaker. Other presenters include Kirsten Enstice, program director of the Diocese of Kalamazoo Immigration Assistance Program; Lynda Krupp, managing attorney, Legal Aid and Defender Association; Bob Gillett, executive director of Legal Services of South Central Michigan; Ashley Lowe, assistant professor, Thomas M. Cooley Law School; and Heidi Naasko, pro bono coordinator at the Dykema Gossett Ann Arbor office.
