Annual Meeting Reception Highlights Bench-Bar Connections

9/3/09

“Celebrating Common Ground: Successful Bench-Bar Partnerships” is the theme of a State Bar of Michigan reception on Thursday, Sept. 17 at the TPC Michigan Golf Club in Dearborn. The event, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., is being held in conjunction with the SBM Annual Meeting.

Nine associations will present information showcasing judicial involvement in their work. These include the Oakland County Bar Association; Dearborn Bar Association; Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association; Livonia Bar Association; Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan; Women Lawyers Association of Michigan; Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter; D. Augustus Straker Bar Association; and the Wolverine Bar Association.

Representatives from the Michigan Supreme Court and various judges’ groups, including the Michigan Judges Association, the State Bar of Michigan’s Judicial Conference, Michigan District Judges Association, Michigan Probate Judges Association, Retired Judges of Michigan, and the Association of Black Judges of Michigan will attend. A short program will celebrate the role of judges in successful bar association work.

The reception will include heavy appetizers and a cash bar. TPC is located at One Nicklaus Drive off Rotunda Drive; a free shuttle will run between the Hyatt Regency and TPC throughout the evening. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the State Bar Annual Meeting registration site at www.michbar.org/annualmeeting.cfm. For more information, contact Candace Crowley at ccrowley@mail.michbar.org or 517-346-6319.
