The State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section is conducting a cellular phone drive to assist HAVEN, the Oakland County-based organization that works with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The fundraising and social-networking event takes place on Thursday, March 26, at Bahama Breeze in Troy from 6 to 9 p.m. Attendees are asked to donate one or more old phones, which HAVEN will then provide to its clients. Phones that are no longer in service can still be used to call 911. Attendees may also make a $10 cash or check gift to HAVEN in lieu of donating a phone.

Prizes will be awarded to those who donate the most cell phones, and the Young Lawyers Section will provide free appetizers to attendees. The cell phone drive is part of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division 2008-09 public service project on behalf of domestic violence prevention and awareness.
