SBM and MSU College of Law to Host Professionalism Program for New Law Students

8/12/10

The State Bar of Michigan and Michigan State University College of Law will partner again to host the Professionalism in Action orientation program for incoming MSU law students on Wednesday, August 18, 2010.

The event is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Broad Business College Complex, room N-100, on the MSU Campus. A reception will be held at the Law College immediately after the program.

The orientation session is a unique opportunity to stress the importance of ethics and professional standards to new law students. The program will match more than 30 prominent lawyers and judges with small groups of students to discuss topics and issues related to professionalism.

Welcoming remarks will be made by MSU College of Law Dean Joan W. Howarth and State Bar Executive Director Janet K. Welch. An overview of the program’s history will be provided by State Bar Commissioner Kurt E. Schnelz. After the small group breakout sessions, a discussion of the students’ conclusions will be facilitated by Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Karen Fort Hood, who will also lead them in a Commitment to Professionalism Pledge.
