UMLI scheduled for June 11-12

The 1999 Upper Michigan Legal Institute (UMLI) will be held June 11th and 12th at The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

This continuing education conference is open to all members of the State Bar of Michigan and will include seminars on real property, family, employment, criminal, business, negligence and personal injury law and probate and estate planning. The Institute’s programs have been approved for eight Wisconsin Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit hours (no ethics hours are included in the total of the CLE hours). Lawyers wishing to receive CLE credit must sign up at the Registration Desk.

Programs will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 11th :

12:30 p.m. — Real Property Law: Michigan Land Division Act Blues (John G. Cameron, Jr. of Warner, Norcross, & Judd, LLP)

1:45 p.m. — Family Law: Court and Cases Update (Scott G. Bassett of Bookholder & Bassett, PC)

3:00 p.m. — Employment Law: Civil Rights and ADR (Deborah L. Gordon of Stark & Gordon)

4:15 p.m. — Probate and Estate Planning: EPIC Changes on the Horizon and Other Developments (Robin D. Ferriby of Barry Moorman, P.C.)

6:00 p.m. — Reception sponsored by the Paul Goebel Group

Saturday, June 13th:

9:00 a.m. — Criminal Law: New Drunk Driving Legislation (Elaine H. Charney of the Michigan Department of State)

9:45 a.m. — Criminal Law: New Sentencing Guidelines (Sheila Robertson Deming of the State Appellate Defenders Office)

9:45 a.m. — Business Law: LLC and Business Entity Planning (Daniel H. Minkus of Clark Hill, PLC)

11:00 a.m. — Negligence and Personal Injury: Liens, Taxes, Case Managers (Linda Miller Atkinson of Philo Atkinson White Stephens White & Whitaker)

12:00 noon — Argument Before the Court of Appeals (Hon. William C. Whitbeck, Chief Judge Pro Tem, Michigan Court of Appeals)

12:30 p.m. — Concluding Remarks and Door Prize drawing.
