(Lansing) Donald F. Tucker and Edward H. Pappas, both of Bloomfield Hills are victors in contested races for the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners. Turner and Pappas won election over incumbent Kurt E. Schnelz of West Bloomfield in a three-way race for District I (Lapeer, Oakland and St. Clair). Tucker and Pappas will fill two vacancies of three-year terms, expiring at the close of the Annual Meeting in 2002.
Re-elected to a three-year term without opposition was commissioner Kim Warren Eddie of Lansing for District E (Barry, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ingham, Ionia, Livingston, Montcalm and Shiawassee) and Detroit incumbents Nancy J. Diehl, Jon Feikens and Hon. Cynthia D. Stephens representing District H (Wayne). Incumbent Randolph P. Piper of Flint won re-election over Commissioner Paul M. Purcell of Saginaw for District B (Bay, Genesee, Huron, Midland, Saginaw, Sanilac and Tuscola).
Carole L. Chiamp of Detroit was elected by an overwhelming majority of votes (2,292) to a three-year term on the Judicial Tenure Commission.
There were uncontested elections in 11 Representative Assembly districts. Elected were:
- 3rd Circuit (Wayne) - Matthew R. Abel and Dennis M. Taubitz and incumbents Margaret A. Costello, Richard L. Cunningham, George H. Hathaway, Sandra M. Larson, Daniel M. Levy and Joanne Fitzgerald Ross.
- 6th Circuit (Oakland) - David T. Daly, William G. Pierson, Marcia Cynthia Ross, Arthur R. Spears, Jr. and incumbent Sheldon G. Larky.
- 13th Circuit (Antrim, Grand Traverse and Leelanau) - Incumbent Barbara A. Assendelft.
- 16th Circuit (Macomb) - Carl E. Chioni and James T. Hogan.
- 17th Circuit (Kent) - Elizabeth A. Jamieson.
- 25th Circuit (Marquette) - Lynn A. Moon.
- 26th Circuit (Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle) - Incumbent David M. Huntley.
- 30th Circuit (Ingham) - Laurin' C. Roberts Thomas, John C. Schlinker and John Soave, Jr.
- 44th Circuit (Livingston) - Robert C. Gardella.
- 53rd Circuit (Cheboygan) - Hon. Harold A. Johnson.
- In the only contested race for the 22nd Circuit (Washtenaw), Lori A. Buiteweg of Ann Arbor won election over John W. Reiser III, also of Ann Arbor.
