(Lansing) Detroit attorneys Nancy J. Diehl and Jon Feikens and Judge Cynthia D. Stephens have all been re-elected to the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners.

Incumbent Diehl was first elected in 1996. She chairs the State Bar's Rules Committee and serves on the Client Protection Fund-Claims Review, Legislation and Personnel Committees. Diehl practices family and criminal law with the Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Feikens first joined the Board in 1987 and serves as chairperson of the Client Protection Fund Claims Review Committee. He also serves on the Judiciary and Nominating Committees. Feikens practices product and professional liability law with Feikens, Stevens, Kennedy, Hurley & Galbraith, P.C.

Judge Stephens was elected to the Board in 1996. She serves on the Executive and Legislation Committees and is also a member of the Representative Assembly. She is Chief Judge Pro Tem of the Third Judicial Circuit Court in Detroit.

All three were elected to three-year terms expiring at the close of the Annual Meeting in 2002.

The State Bar Board of Commissioners acts as the primary managing body for the Bar and hires the Executive Director. It also sets State Bar policy between meetings of the Representative Assembly. Twenty members are elected from districts apportioned based on lawyer population. Other members include three Representative Assembly officers, five members appointed by the Supreme Court, and three officers of the Young Lawyers Section.

Six Detroit attorneys were elected to the 150-member Representative Assembly of the State Bar: Dennis M. Taubitz and incumbents Margaret A. Costello, Richard L. Cunningham, George H. Hathaway, Daniel M. Levy and Joanne Fitzgerald Ross. Taubitz is with the City of Detroit Law Department; Costello is with Dykema Gossett, PLLC; Cunningham is Associate Counsel with the Attorney Grievance Commission; Hathaway is with Detroit Edison Co.; Levy is Assistant Attorney General and Ross is with Urso & Ross, PC.

The Representative Assembly is the primary policy-making organization for the State Bar.
