State Bar Launches Television Campaign

2/2/99

On "Super Bowl Sunday" the State Bar of Michigan kicked off the public phase of a multi-year public service campaign designed to improve the public's perception of lawyers.

"Without a high level of confidence and trust in lawyers, the justice system is ultimately weakened--especially since lawyers, and judges who are also lawyers, are the foundation of that system" said State Bar of Michigan President J. Thomas Lenga.

The first of three thirty second spots aired just before the Super Bowl kickoff in the nine Michigan television markets. It reminds us all of the integrity and dedication of lawyers in making the American justice system work for all whether big or small.

President Lenga stated: "The first time I saw these announcements, I was truly moved. Actually, they knocked my socks off because I was reminded vividly of why I became a lawyer." He added: "I believe the public will be impressed with the real world of lawyers as opposed to the fictionalized version of TV entertainment."

The campaign will be run on televised special event programs such as the Oscars, Emmy Awards, and Miss America Pageant. They will also run for four five-week periods throughout this year on selected cable channels throughout Michigan.
