Lakeshore Legal Aid and the City of Detroit Clean Slate Project need pro bono attorneys to help low income people expunge non-violent criminal records so they can get jobs. This is a pro bono opportunity to help people at a one day clinic. The event is Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m.–4:00 p.m. at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 2080 W Grand Blvd, Detroit MI 48208. You can sign up for all or part of the day. We expect about 1,500 people who need expungements.

 

We need attorneys to determine if people are legally eligible for an expungement. If so, they need help preparing the short SCAO pleading. You will NOT leave with cases. Past volunteers rate this as one of their most meaningful pro bono experiences.

 

You do not need prior experience with expungements. We will give you training and written materials. Attorneys with expungement experience will be available to answer questions as you work with people.
