Annual Report 2001-2002

The Probate and Estate Planning Council has had a busy year dealing with proposed legislation and, most importantly, the Uniform Principal and Income Act. The council believes adoption of the act by the legislature will have a beneficial effect upon trust administration.

We also lined up many section members to assist with pro bono estate planning documents for soldiers and reservists who were to be called up during Operation Infinite Justice. As it turns out, however, the numbers called up were well within the Armed Forces existing capacity to handle estate planning needs.

The council has again co-sponsored the PEP Seminar (the 42nd) with ICLE. All expectations are that it will be an excellent program and will be well attended. Under the leadership of Dirk Hoffius, the Chair Elect, we have engaged in long range planning for the council and section, devoting significant time at each of our meetings to these discussions. Our plan is to have an extended discussion at our annual section meeting in September.

Two editions of the PEPC journal were published, a third is in the works, and possibly a fourth will be mailed out in the summer.

We have been deliberating future changes to our bylaws with respect to elections and our annual meeting.

Yours very truly,
John A. Scott
Chairperson
