Programs Eligible to Receive Pro Bono Donations

Make Your Annual Pro Bono Donation through the Access to Justice Fund
Every attorney who did not perform at least 30 hours of Pro Bono work in 2003 is encouraged under the State Bar's Voluntary Standard for Pro Bono Participation to use the Access to Justice Fund to donate at least $300 to an eligible Pro Bono organization. The Bar requests that all funds (even those designated for individual programs) be donated to the ATJ Fund-having the funds come through a single source permits the Bar to leverage large gifts for statewide services

The Access to Justice Fund (ATJ Fund) does not provide legal services, but it distributes contributions to Michigan legal service providers as designated by the donor, or, if not designated, on a grant basis to legal service providers throughout the state. Any program listed below as eligible to receive Pro Bono contributions can be designated to receive an operations gift through the ATJ Fund. These gifts may be eligible for a federal tax deduction. Programs followed by an * accept designated endowment gifts in addition to designated operations gifts. Gifts to the endowment fund may be eligible for a Michigan Tax Credit. A general permanent endowment fund is available for undesignated gifts to support needs throughout the state. By making a donation, you can help meet the enormous need for legal services for the poor and satisfy your Pro Bono obligation. Please see www.michbar.org or www.atjfund.org for more information or to donate online.

Programs Eligible to Receive Pro Bono Contributions
The programs listed below have been certified as eligible to receive donations that satisfy the Voluntary Standard for Pro Bono Participation. Each organization is, or has, a nonprofit program which has been organized for the purpose of delivering civil legal services to low-income individuals or organizations. Programs that wish to receive contributions must submit an application to the Pro Bono Involvement Committee. The committee then determines eligibility based on established criteria and policies. However, the committee's determination that a program is eligible does not mean that the committee supports or endorses that program or shares any ideological goals that program may have. Such a determination means only that, based in part upon representations received from the program, the organization appears to meet the eligibility requirements. Additional programs are eligible to receive Access to Justice Fund designations and a complete listing can be found at www.atjfund.org.
