Champion of Justice Award Online Application

Deadline: Monday, April 2, 2012

Criteria

    Not more than five Champion of Justice Awards will be given to practicing lawyers and judges each year by the State Bar of Michigan. Criteria for the award are:

    • State Bar of Michigan membership for at least 10 years
    • Integrity and adherence to the highest principles and traditions of the legal profession
    • Superior professional competence
    • An extraordinary professional accomplishment that benefits the nation, the state, or the local community in which the lawyer or judge lives

    Please answer each question as thoroughly as possible. If you require more space than provided, please submit additional information by e-mail to Joyce Nordeen at jnordeen@mail.michbar.org, please note in your e-mail the name of the award and the nominee's name.

Explain how the nominee is a person of integrity and adheres to the highest principles and traditions of the legal profession. Give specific examples.

Describe how the nominee demonstrates superior professional competence.

Describe in detail an extraordinary professional accomplishment of the nominee that benefits the nation, the state, or the local community in which the lawyer or judge lives.

Explain how the nominee has made a significant lasting contribution to the nation, the state, or the community in which the nominee lives or serves.

Please provide a complete resume that includes dates of:

  • Service to and on behalf of the State Bar of Michigan
  • Other service to the legal profession
  • Service to the public
  • Any awards the nominee may have received

Optional: List news, magazine, radio, and TV features about the nominee’s accomplishments (do not submit actual articles or DVDs).

Please provide a letter written by the nominator explaining why the nominee should be considered for the award. The letter should be signed by the nominator and any additional supporters.
