FOCUS: FY 2012 Budget Recommendations
On February 17, Governor Rick Snyder, Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, and Budget Director John Nixon presented FY 2010 budget recommendations and tax policy reforms to a joint meeting of the Senate and House Appropriations Committees, Senate Finance Committee, and the House Tax Policy Committee. The budget, among other things, calls for the elimination of six trial court judges.

FOCUS: Custodial Interrogation Recording
On February 16, Senator Tonya Schuitmaker (R-Lawton) introduced SB 152, a bill to require recording of certain custodial interrogation sessions. The legislation would implement recommendations from the State Bar of Michigan Custodial Interrogation Recording Task Force. The Task Force commends Senator Schuitmaker for introducing the bill.

HB 4261 Crime victims; rights; names and addresses of minors who have been victims of child abuse or sex crimes; allow to be exempted from disclosure under freedom of information act. Amends sec. 13 of 1976 PA 442 (MCL 15.243).

HB 4264 Property tax; appeals; fees for appealing property tax to the Michigan tax tribunal; revise. Amends sec. 37 of 1973 PA 186 (MCL 205.737).
