Agenda: SB 1126 Require electronic monitoring of certain participants in work release programs; SB 1127 Require verification of school enrollment or employment of individual placed on school or work release while on probation; HB 5431 Prohibit false report of medical or other emergency and provide for a penalty and reimbursement of certain expenses; HB 5432 Provide for reimbursement of certain expenses resulting from false reports of emergencies; HB 5433 Enact sentencing guidelines for crime of making false report of medical or other emergency; HB 5124 Establish concurrent jurisdiction in certain courts; HB 4834 Require photograph on medical marihuana card; HB 4851 Clarify definition of "bona fide physician-patient relationship"; HB 4853 Implement sentencing guidelines for crime of selling or providing medical marihuana to unprescribed user; HB 4856 Allow transporting medical marihuana in motor vehicle under certain circumstances; SB 743 Create uniform child abduction prevention act; Pending Referral: HB 5658 Clarify use of inmate labor; And any other business properly before the committee.

Agenda Items of Interest: SB 1115 Modify and clarify medical malpractice; procedures for entry of damage awards; SB 1116 Enact medical malpractice; physician judgment rule; SB 1117 Include nonlicensed health care providers in persons to whom medical malpractice provisions of the revised judicature act apply; SB 1118 Revise statute of limitations in period of limitations for survival actions and disallow prejudgment interest on attorney fees and costs.

2011-09—Proposed Revision of Administrative Order No. 1989-1 (rules regarding media access in the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court)
The proposed amendment of Administrative Order No. 1989-1 adds new language that clarifies and expands the standards for allowing film or electronic media coverage of court proceedings in the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.

The Board of Commissioners met on June 8, 2012 at which time the State Bar of Michigan adopted the following Public Policy positions:
HB 5128 Courts; other; business court; create. Amends 1961 PA 236 (MCL 600.101600.9947) by adding ch. 10B.
SBM Position: Support the concept of creating business courts, and the purposes described in HB 5128, Sec. 1086, but request amendments.

HB 5551 Courts, funding; Courts, juries. Courts; funding; mileage reimbursement rate for juror; increase. Amends sec. 1344 of 1961 PA 236 (MCL 600.1344).
