Dear Tax Section members:

The Tax Section’s Council is undertaking a new initiative to provide comments on legislative, regulatory, and other tax matters in respect of federal income tax legislation and state tax legislation impacted by federal tax laws. This is an extension of the Council’s current work in providing such feedback with respect to state and local tax matters, including the filing of amicus briefs with the Michigan Supreme Court. It is the Council’s goal for the Tax Section to provide meaningful feedback to governmental officials on federal tax-related matters that affect the clients of our members. This commentary may take the form of a Tax Section report, formal response to a request for comments on regulatory guidance, etc. Please contact James H. Combs of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP at, Andrew W. MacLeod of Dickinson Wright at or William Lentine at if there are particular federal tax-related matters with respect to which you believe the Tax Section may have an interest in commenting.

Letter to Senator Caswell

Read the letter and exhibit submitted to Senator Caswell regarding the Taxation Section’s position with respect to Michigan Tax Tribunal Reform and Michigan tax litigation reform. Comments can be submitted to Brian Figot at
