Order a Certificate of Good Standing - 2024

A Certificate of Good Standing is official State Bar of Michigan documentation that you are a licensed attorney in Michigan. Certificates of Good Standing are available to active, voluntarily inactive, or emeritus members of the State Bar of Michigan who are not resigned or suspended and who are not subject to pending disciplinary proceedings in Michigan or another jurisdiction.

Every order includes a PDF copy of the Certificate of Good Standing. Original certificates also can be mailed to the requesting attorney via U.S. Postal Service at no additional cost or via FedEx Priority Overnight delivery for an additional $40.

Certificates of Good Standing can be purchased for $15 each using Visa or Mastercard.

Note: Newly admitted attorneys are eligible for a Certificate of Good Standing after they receive a P Number.

Order a Confirmation of Status - 2024

If you are currently suspended, withdrawn/resigned, or otherwise not a member in good standing, you are eligible to order a Confirmation of Status letter to confirm your past or present membership in the State Bar of Michigan and your current status.

Every order includes a watermarked PDF copy of the Confirmation of Status letter. Original letter also can be mailed to the requesting attorney via U.S. Postal Service at no additional cost.

Confirmation of status letters can be purchased for $15 each using Visa or Mastercard.

FAQs

You are eligible for a Certificate of Good Standing if all the following apply:

  • You have an assigned P#
  • Your State Bar of Michigan membership status is active, voluntarily inactive, or emeritus
  • You are not subject to any disciplinary proceedings in Michigan or any other jurisdiction

To serve you quickly and efficiently, every order for a Certificate of Good Standing includes an emailed PDF copy of the original.

  • If ordered before noon EST on business days, the PDF copy is typically emailed by 5 p.m. the same day.
  • If ordered after noon EST on business days or when State Bar offices are closed, the PDF copy is typically emailed by 5 p.m. the next business day.

Original certificates also can be printed and shipped to you. Normal processing time is 1-3 business days, plus mailing time. Most orders are delivered by U.S. Postal Service in 3-7 days.

Rush processing using FedEx Priority Overnight delivery is available for an additional fee.

The Confirmation of Status letter includes:

  • Attorney name
  • P Number
  • Current city, state, and country (if outside the U.S.)
  • Current Status
  • State Bar of Michigan license date
  • A disclaimer noting: “The records of the State Bar of Michigan do not include information concerning whether a member is currently subject to pending disciplinary proceedings in Michigan or another jurisdiction. Any questions regarding an attorney's disciplinary history should be directed to the Attorney Discipline Board.”

Members in good standing are not eligible for a Confirmation of Status letter.

A certificate “from the highest court” must come from the Michigan Supreme Court Clerk’s Office, not the State Bar of Michigan. You can order a copy online by mail or email.

This document is called an Affidavit of Personal History and contains the character and fitness information you supplied to sit for the bar exam. You can order a copy online.
