Ag Law Section to Host Educational Program & Annual Meeting

The State Bar of Michigan Agricultural Law Section will host its Annual Meeting and Educational Program from 9-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 in conjunction with the State Bar Annual Meeting at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids.

The section business meeting will take place from 9-9:30 a.m., when the section’s officers and council will be elected for the coming year.

The business meeting will be followed by a two-hour educational program consisting of three different educational sessions:

  • In the first session, “Recent Environmental Cases Affecting Agriculture,” Michael Showalter of Schiff Hardin LLC in Chicago and New York will discuss recent environmental decisions affecting agriculture and how Supreme Court and appellate decisions affect how businesses are regulated.
  • In the second session, “Planning for a Contamination Event: Cost Recovery,” Steve Kluting of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. in Grand Rapids will discuss cost recovery options facing a food/agribusiness company involved in a food safety incident.
  • In the third session, “Got Beer? An Introduction to Michigan’s Growing Hops and Malt Industries,” Brian Tennis of Michigan Hope Alliance and Erik May of Pilot Malt House will educate listeners on the growing hops and malt industries from the perspectives of their organizations.
