Jennifer M. Grieco Sworn in as State Bar President

Jennifer M. Grieco, of Birmingham, has been sworn in as the 84th president of the State Bar of Michigan. Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen J. Markman presided at the Sept. 27 ceremony, which took place in conjunction with the SBM NEXT Conference at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids.

Grieco is a partner with Neuman Anderson Grieco McKenney PC in Birmingham and concentrates her practice in the area of complex commercial litigation. Her experience encompasses a broad range of commercial disputes with a particular emphasis on business tort claims including professional malpractice, contract claims, construction litigation and coverage claims. She has more than 20 years of trial experience and has been awarded multiple high-profile verdicts and arbitration awards.

Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen J. Markman also swore in other officers for the 2018-2019 bar year, including President-Elect Dennis M. Barnes, of Detroit; Vice President Robert J. Buchanan, of Grand Rapids; Secretary Dana M. Warnez, of Center Line; and Treasurer James W. Heath, of Detroit.

Grieco will lead an organization of over 45,000 members that works to improve the administration of justice, promotes the legal profession, and builds public understanding of the legal system. She has been involved in State Bar work for almost a decade and has served on many of its committees and groups. She has served on the SBM Board of Commissioners since 2011, and has served as treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president-elect. She has also served on the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly.

A frequent speaker and published author, Grieco is past president of the Oakland County Bar Association, after serving as a member of the OCBA Board of Directors for six years. She also served as president of the Oakland County Region of the Women Lawyers Association and Chair of the OCBA New Lawyers Committee. While president of the OCBA, she oversaw the installation of the Pro Bono Mentor Match program, which won the LexisNexis Community Education Outreach Award, and the State Bar of Michigan Kimberly M. Cahill Bar Leadership Award. Grieco has also received many other accolades and awards for her volunteer work, including the Legal Aid and Defender Association Pro Bono Service Award, OCBA Michael E. Lee Memorial Award Recognizing Diversity, being named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly Women in the Law, and being named to Crain’s Detroit Business 40 under 40.

She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo and earned her law degree cum laude from the University of Toledo College of Law, where she served as Note and Comment Editor of the University of Toledo Law Review.
