Reminder: You Can Pay Dues Now on Michbar.org

At the State Bar of Michigan, we want to deliver the highest quality products and member experience to you. Sometimes we bite off more than we can chew. This year, aiming high, we upgraded our database and e-commerce site (where you pay your dues) ahead of the dues season. Great idea—in theory. Unfortunately, our pre-launch testing of the dues payment system was, to put it mildly, inadequate. Although most members have breezed through the new payment process, too many of you have not. In the name of making things easier, we made things more difficult for too many.

To all of you who experienced problems, we let you down and we offer no excuses. We apologize for the minutes of your precious time that have been stolen by the process. While technical problems are an unavoidable hazard of any technology, we want you to know that we will never again be caught with a less than state-of-the-art testing process.

We've been working round the clock to make the system work as intended. If you've not yet paid, the process should now work smoothly. If you need help during any phase of the mandatory disclosure and dues payment process, contact our dues team at (517) 346-6377 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or at sbm-dues-billing@michbar.org at any time.

To complete your annual disclosures and pay your 2018-2019 dues online with a debit, credit card or e-check, start by visiting https://e.michbar.org. You can also visit the State Bar website at michbar.org and click on "Member Area Login."

Once you've logged in, you may pay your dues online by clicking "Pay Your Dues Now." If you, your firm, or employer will pay by mailing a check, complete your disclosures and other information online and then print your member dues remittance document by clicking on "Pay Your Dues by Mail." If you can't print your dues remittance document but want to pay by physical check, submit a check to the address provided with your P number written on the check.

Some tips to help you navigate the member area portal:

• If you do not know or forgot your login and password, you can reset your password immediately by selecting the password reset button and entering your P number, birth date, and county where you were sworn in.
• In order to log in to your account, you may need to upgrade your internet browser to the latest version. Some members using Safari and older versions of Internet Explorer have experienced issues with the new platform.
• Passwords should be 9 characters long, include at least 1 number and 1 letter, and contain no special characters. For additional dues log in assistance, please refer to the dues information page.

Law firms and other entities paying dues for more than one attorney by mailing a check should ask their attorneys to 1) log in to https://e.michbar.org and complete disclosures and other information, 2) select "Pay Your Dues by Mail," 3) print the dues remittance document, and 4) provide the dues remittance document to the firm administrator for processing and for mailing with a check to the address provided.

Dues payments must be paid online by 11:59 p.m. EST on November 30, 2018, or if mailed, postmarked by November 30, 2018, to avoid a late payment charge of $50.
