60th District Court Announcement

The 60th District Court bench wishes to communicate to the local bar association that misdemeanor criminal pre-trial hearings, felony probable cause conferences, and general civil pretrial conferences must take place at the date and time set by court, unless the assigned judge has approved otherwise.

The court has noticed an increase in the number of ‘informal’ or ‘by phone’ pretrial conferences taking place. This practice makes it more cumbersome for the court to ensure that both parties have received notice of trial dates and has resulted in litigants and counsel failing to appear for trial on those cases where a pretrial was not conducted in-person.

District Court magistrates and clerks will no longer be accepting any pretrial forms/statements that simply note that the pretrial or probable cause conference was conducted ‘by phone,’ without authorization from the assigned judge.
