Legal Aid of Western Michigan (LAWM) has an open position for a Staff Attorney, Muskegon office.

Qualifications

  • • A license to practice law in Michigan or eligible to be admitted by waiver, or scheduled to sit for the July Michigan bar examination.
  • • Demonstrated commitment to protecting the rights of low-income individuals and households.
  • • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • • Spanish Language proficiency valued.

Duties

  • • Manage a litigation caseload, including, but not limited to, family law, housing law, consumer law & public benefits cases.
  • • Successfully manage multiple tasks.
  • • Build collaborative relationships within the community.

Salary/Benefits

Open Position: LAWM Managing Attorney in Muskegon Office

Legal Aid of Western Michigan (LAWM) has a position open for a Managing Attorney in its Muskegon office. LAWM is LSC-funded and represents low-income individuals and families in a wide variety of poverty law areas including domestic violence, housing, public benefits, and consumer issues. The Muskegon office has four other attorneys and two support staff.

  • Qualifications include at least five years of experience as a practicing attorney,  • some degree of supervisory experience,   • excellent written and oral communication skills. Spanish Language proficiency valued.

Effective May 1, 2019, Muskegon County Circuit Court Records will only be providing certified copies of Judgment of Divorces as these are a State vital record. There will be a $10.00 fee per certified copy with an additional charge of $1.00 per page for the copy.

We also recognize various community members with the presentation of several awards. 

Honoring students, their teachers, and outstanding citizens is an important part of our Law Day festivities, and we hope to see a large number of MCBA members in attendance to show support for these activities!

The Ottawa County Domestic Law Summit is open for registration.  If you replied to the save the date email and did not receive a reply then you are not registered.  Please register with the link above.

Check-in will begin at 12:30pm, and presentations will begin at 1pm.
The agenda will be published in the coming weeks.

Lunch & Handouts: We are not able to serve lunch at this event. We will have light snacks (pretzels, cheeses, crackers, fruit, water, coffee, etc.) available at check-in and during a brief intermission.  Handouts will be made available via email 1–2 days ahead of time to all registered attendees; we will not be providing hard copies at the event.

Golden Apple Award & Liberty Bell Community Leadership Award

Each year, MCBA sponsors a Law Day event to focus attention on the importance of the legal system. In conjunction with Law Day, MCBA also sponsors the Golden Apple Award and the Liberty Bell Award, which will be awarded to community members at our annual Law Day Luncheon.
