SB 75 Allow for state identification cards to be issued with designated address for address confidentiality program for certain victims and individuals;
Family Law Section Position on SB 75: Support with Recommended Amendments.
SB 76 Exempt certain crime victims from jury duty and provide that certain individuals are not practicing law in violation of the revised judicature act.
SBM Position on SB 76: Oppose because it creates an additional exemption to jury service; courts already have the ability to excuse these individuals from jury service.
Criminal Law Section Position on SB 76: Oppose.

HB 4687 (Natural Resources & Environmental Protection Act, Feeding or Baiting Deer) was re-referred to the House Committee on Government Operations after being vetoed by the Governor on 12/19/19.

Supreme Court Adopts Rule Change to Allow Cell Phones in Courts

Amendments 
ADM File 2018-30: Amendment of MCR 8.115
The amendment of MCR 8.115, submitted by the Michigan State Planning Body, explicitly allows the use of cellular phones (as well as prohibits certain uses) in a courthouse.  The rule makes cell phone and electronic device use policies consistent from one court to another, and broadens the ability of litigants to use their devices in support of their court cases when possible.

January 24 Board of Commissioners Public Policy Agenda
The SBM Board of Commissioners will be considering several public policy items at their January 24 meeting. The public policy agenda can be reviewed online. Members of the State Bar are invited to submit comments to the Board of Commissioners on any of the items on the agenda. All comments received before the meeting will be shared with the Board.
