Legislative Action Last Week:
Summary of legislative action on all bills that the State Bar or sections of the State Bar have taken positions.
HB 5541 (Revised Judicature Act of 1961, Requirements for Admission to the Bar) passed the Senate 35 to 2 on 3/23. It now moves onto the governor for her signature.

ADM File No. 2020-16: Amendment of MCR 9.261
The amendment of MCR 9.261 allows the JTC to share information with the State Bar of Michigan’s Judicial Qualifications Committee and the Lawyers & Judges Assistance Program, as well as other judicial qualification committees in certain circumstances.

April 8 Board of Commissioners Public Policy Agenda
The SBM Board of Commissioners will be considering several public policy items at its April 8 meeting. The public policy agenda can be reviewed online. Members of the State Bar are invited to submit comments to the Board of Commissioners on any of the items on the agenda. All comments received before the meeting will be shared with the Board.

April 9 Representative Assembly Agenda
The Representative Assembly will be meeting on Saturday, April 9, 2022. The agenda is posted online. Members of the State Bar are invited to submit comments to Representative Assembly on the public policy items on the agenda, which are listed below:

2022 SBM Election Nominating Petitions Due April 30
Electronic ballots for the 2022 election will be distributed no later than June 1, 2022, and must be received, postmarked, or completed online no later than June 15, 2022.
