Consolidated billing now available

The State Bar of Michigan is now offering consolidated billing to allow firms and other organizations that employ multiple attorneys to more easily pay their attorneys’ license fees. Consolidated billing automates the tracking, calculation, and processing of renewal payments and compiles all their attorneys’ fees into one invoice.

The pilot program launched last year with more than 70 participating organizations. Based on its success, the State Bar is expanding the option for consolidated billing to any organization with at least five attorneys for which it pays license fees. New enrollments are being accepted through August 1, 2023. To sign up: Email SBMfinance@michbar.org or call (517) 346-6377.

During license renewal (which begins in mid-September), individual attorneys will continue to complete their renewal and mandatory regulatory disclosures online. For organizations using consolidated billing, an office administrator or manager can view the amounts due for multiple attorneys and pay the total license fee amount — without having to collect and send individual remittance documents for each attorney. Payments will be accepted via electronic or mailed check, ACH, and credit card.

Participating organizations will have the option of choosing to pay voluntary fees, such as section memberships, or having those billed directly to the attorney.

Consolidated billing also helps participants avoid calculation errors, monitor their attorneys’ renewal status, and save on postage. View a flyer about the program here.
