SBM Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section to Host Annual Day of Education May 3 at Lansing Community College West Campus

The State Bar of Michigan Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section and the Association of Litigation Support Professionals, Michigan Chapter, will present an "Annual Day of Education" from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 3 at Lansing Community College West Campus.

The Day of Education will begin with a keynote address by State Bar of Michigan Executive Director Janet Welch.

The rest of the day will feature four seminar tracks:

  • Track A focuses on trial war stories, FOIA and retention of electronic documents and ethics.
  • Track B focuses on immigration, practice management, and employment, unemployment, wage, hours and compensation.
  • The ALSP Track A will focus on e-discovery case law updates, fresh approach to cost control and e-discovery bingo.
  • The ALSP Track B will focus on forensic collection and analysis of mobile devices, compliance and e-discovery in special media and e-discovery bingo.

The cost to attend the day of education is $75 for SBM Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section members, $95 for non-members, and $40 for students, if registered before April 30. There will be a $110 late fee for all registrations received after April 30.

The Day of Education will be preceded by a networking reception honoring the 139th Kentucky Derby called "Race to Excellence" from 6-10 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 in the Lexington Lansing Hotel at 925 S. Creyts Road in Lansing. The reception is $25 for those registered for the Annual Day of Education and $35 for everyone else. The event will feature cocktails, appetizers, and event prizes, and attendees are encouraged to wear fancy hats, frilly dresses, seersucker suits and flashy ties. There will be a Best Hat contest for women and a Best Dressed contest for men.
