Criminal Law Section to Host Educational Program

The Criminal Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will host its Annual Meeting and Educational Program from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 23 in conjunction with the State Bar Annual Meeting at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids. 

The section business meeting, in which five section members will be elected to three-year terms on the council, will take place from 9-10 a.m. The business meeting will be followed by a two-hour educational program consisting of a keynote address and a panel discussion. Insha Rahman, of the Vera Institute of Justice’s Center on Sentencing & Corrections, will present the keynote address about the article Incarceration’s Front Door: The Misuse of Jails in America. Rahman will then join a panel discussion, which will focus on the overuse of pretrial detention and misuse of local jails. The panel will also consist of Terry Jungel, executive director of the Michigan Sheriffs’ Association, and Michael Hantman, of Goldfarb Bonding.
