Support Access to Justice for All

Important Message from Don Reockwell, President of the State Bar of Michigan

During this holiday season, please consider supporting access to justice in Michigan by donating to the Access to Justice Fund. As lawyers, we know firsthand the value and necessity of quality legal representation. With your help, together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our most vulnerable community members.

In the last year, approximately 71 percent of low-income households in Michigan experienced at least one civil legal problem, including problems with domestic violence, veterans’ benefits, disability access, housing conditions, and healthcare. The nonprofit legal aid programs in Michigan do not have the resources to help everyone that needs legal representation.

You can help. Your donation to the Access to Justice Fund will ensure justice and fairness for families facing civil legal emergencies. The Access to Justice Campaign is a partnership of the State Bar of Michigan, the Michigan State Bar Foundation, and Michigan’s nonprofit civil legal aid agencies to increase resources for civil legal aid to the poor in Michigan. The Michigan State Bar Foundation receives and administers tax-deductible contributions. For more information, see www.atjfund.org.

If you have not yet made your 2017 Access to Justice Fund gift, or you are able to consider additional support, you can donate for statewide needs or designate your donation to a specific nonprofit legal aid program. Please consider donating $300 or $500, the individual attorney amount recommended by the State Bar of Michigan in its policy implementing MRPC 6.1, the public service ethics rule.

To donate online, please visit www.atjfund.org. If you prefer to mail your donation, please click here to access a printable form.

Many thanks for your consideration and generosity.

Donald G. Rockwell, President
State Bar of Michigan
