Nicole Evans to serve as RA Chair

Congratulations to Nicole Evans, who will serve as the 2025-26 chair of the State Bar of Michigan’s Representative Assembly.

Evans was sworn in by Court of Appeals Judge Kristina Robinson Garrett during the Representative Assembly meeting on September 19, 2025, and will serve a one-year term as chair. Evans has been a member of the RA since 2018 and served in several capacities, chairing the Special Issues Committee and serving on the Affordable Legal Services workgroup for the State Bar and the Representative Assembly Ad Hoc committees for Diversity and Reform. As chair of the RA, she said she plans to prioritize initiatives related to access to justice, legal deserts, and increasing awareness of the RA.

Evans is the court administrator for 54-B District Court of East Lansing and has served in that role since 2016. Evans was instrumental in helping the court utilize technology during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since continued to use technology to advance access to justice efforts, including virtual expungement and license restoration clinics. Prior to her current role, she served as the deputy court administrator for 54-B District Court and the City Clerk of East Lansing.

In addition, she is a member of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, American Inns of Court, Women Lawyers Association Michigan, Michigan Court Administrators Association, State Bar Representative Assembly, National Association Court Managers, the Ingham County Bar Association, and the Davis-Dunnings Bar Association.

She also volunteers and has served her community in a multitude of ways through her work with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Project Salute, Zonta Club of East Lansing, and Meals on Wheels.

During its September meeting, the RA also presented Janet K. Welch with the RA’s Michael Franck Award, and Kamau Sandiford with the Unsung Hero Award.
