SBM seeking attorney input on economic state of the legal profession

The State Bar of Michigan is calling on Michigan attorneys to participate in the Economics of Law Survey, which provides crucial data for courts to determine attorney fees.

Conducted every three years, the Economics of Law Survey gathers economic insights for private practice and non-private practice attorneys including average income levels across more than 50 specific fields of practice; demographic data; and county-by-county and statewide average billing rates. Courts statewide use the information and analysis provided when determining attorney fees.

The survey also is a useful tool for attorneys, who can look at averages based on location and practice area to see how their rates compare. To ensure the accuracy and usefulness of the report, participation from attorneys in both private and non-private practice is critical.

The survey is now open and it takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All active State Bar of Michigan members were emailed an invitation to participate. Learn more a michbar.org/Survey. The deadline to participate is February 27, 2026.

Michigan attorneys who complete the survey can enter for a chance to win an Amazon gift card. One $500 Amazon gift card, two $250 Amazon gift cards, and five $100 Amazon gift cards will be awarded to participants.
