Nominating petitions for the 2026 State Bar of Michigan elections are now available. Detailed information about the upcoming election is available online in the Michigan Bar Journal. The June election will include:

  • A statewide election for a non-judicial member of the Judicial Tenure Commission.
  • Elections for 81 members of the Representative Assembly in 41 judicial circuits.
  • Elections for six members of the Board of Commissioners in four commissioner districts.
  • Elections for 11 members of the Young Lawyers Section Executive Council in 3 districts.

Candidates for any of the elections must submit nominating petitions no earlier than April 1, 2026, and no later than April 30, 2026. Completed petitions should be scanned and emailed to csharlow@michbar.org, rather than faxed or physically mailed. Nominating petitions for all elections are available on the State Bar of Michigan website here.

As substitute for physical signatures, you may also submit an “electronic confirmation of nomination.” Electronic confirmations must be attached to your completed petition and emailed to csharlow@michbar.org in the following format:

“I support the nomination of [CANDIDATE ATTORNEY’S NAME] to serve on the [POSITION] for the [XX] District/Circuit. My office is located in the [XX] District/Circuit.
[NOMINATING ATTORNEY’S NAME]
[NOMINATING ATTORNEY’S P NUMBER]
[NOMINATING ATTORNEY’S OFFICE ADDRESS]

Online voting will begin on May 22, 2026, and must be completed by June 15, 2026. Ballots will be emailed to active Michigan attorneys at the email address they have on file. Check or update your contact information at michbar.org/MemberArea.

If you have questions, contact Amy Owens at aowens@michbar.org or Carrie Sharlow at csharlow@michbar.org.
