Supreme Court accepting applications for SBM Board of Commissioners

The Michigan Supreme Court is now accepting applications from Michigan attorneys interested in serving on the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners. Applicants must have a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and be members of the State Bar of Michigan.

There is one court-appointed vacancy this year. The appointed commissioner will serve a three-year term that will commence upon the adjournment of the 2026 annual meeting of the outgoing Board of Commissioners. This is an unpaid volunteer position

Interested applicants must submit a resume or CV formatted in Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF, along with consent to a personal background investigation, via email to jobapps@courts.mi.gov. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

In lieu of a cover letter, applicants have been asked to respond to the following questions:

  1. Have you previously served on the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners? If so, when?
  2. What experience do you have that makes you qualified for this appointment?
  3. Why do you want to be appointed to the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners?
