The 2026 Great Lakes Legal Conference, taking place June 12-13, is open to all State Bar of Michigan members and is a perfect opportunity to mingle with Michigan’s legal experts, build new connections with your peers, and learn from industry experts — including this year’s keynote speaker, Michael J. Steinberg, a civil rights lawyer, law professor, and storyteller known for his frequent appearances on NPR’s “The Moth Radio Hour.”   

The Great Lakes Legal Conference offers four learning tracks: Leadership, Legal Updates, Litigation, and Practice Management & Technology. Session topics include, “Trial Tactics that Move Juries,” “Tools to Help Your Board Govern Collaboratively and Courageously,” “Driver’s License Restoration in Michigan,” and many more. Participants can mix and match sessions from different tracks to personalize their conference experience.  

In addition to the learning tracks, attendees will also hear from Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh, State Bar of Michigan President Lisa J. Hamameh, and SBM Executive Director Peter Cunningham. Conference-goers also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with Molly Ranns, the director of the State Bar of Michigan’s Lawyer and Judges Assistance Program, and Marjory Raymer, SBM’s director of communications.
