It’s time to renew your license for the 2026-2027 Bar year

License renewal for the 2026-2027 Bar year is now open. All Michigan attorneys are required to renew their license with the State Bar of Michigan and complete mandatory regulation disclosures annually.

The State Bar of Michigan uses an online system to make license renewals easy and convenient. License renewals, including payment of license fees, must be completed online or postmarked by November 30, 2026, to avoid a $50 late fee.

Renew your license today at michbar.org/MemberArea.

WARNING: The U.S. Postal Service no longer postmarks mail the day it is sent (unless you take it inside to a service counter and specifically request a same-day postmark). The $50 late fee will be assessed on all payments not received or postmarked by the post office by 11:59 p.m. November 30, 2026 — regardless of the day it was mailed. The State Bar of Michigan recommends paying online to ensure your payment is received on time. You can pay online using a check at no additional cost.

All active and inactive Michigan attorneys will be emailed this week with information about their license renewal. (Emeritus attorneys no longer are required to renew their license.) Reminder emails will be sent to attorneys throughout the renewal season until their license renewal is complete.

The Rules Concerning the State Bar of Michigan require all attorneys to keep a valid email address on file with the State Bar of Michigan. You can check and/or edit your information in the online Member Area by clicking “Manage” under the “Profile” section.

The new Bar year begins on October 1, 2026.

The State Bar of Michigan administers the annual License Renewal process for Michigan attorneys and distributes the funds as directed by the Michigan Supreme Court. For more information about License Renewal and for answers to frequently asked questions, visit michbar.org/LicenseRenewalFAQ.
