Insurance Law Section to Host Commercial Property Program

The State Bar of Michigan Insurance & Indemnity Law Section will host its Annual Meeting and Educational Program from 9-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 in conjunction with the SBM Annual Meeting at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids.

The business meeting will take place from 9-9:30 a.m. and the educational program from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The educational program, “Commercial Property from Start to Finish,” will feature a panel that will take a comprehensive look at the complex risk factors involved in insuring commercial property. Don Balmes, of Willis Risk Solutions, will discuss common strategies used to insure commercial real property and what insurance coverage is available in the marketplace. Patrick King, of Fabian Skylar & King, will provide insight into the claims process, examine how to approach recovery of a commercial property loss and explain policy coverages most frequently invoked in the event of a loss. W. Daniel Troyka, of Conlin McKenney, will provide the insurance company perspective and identify some policy provisions frequently invoked by insurance carriers during the claims process. Bill Butler, of Butler & Associates, will explain the appraisal process that is frequently invoked in the event of a dispute between the insured and the insurer.
