SBM Annual Meeting Reception to Celebrate Diversity

9/10/12

The State Bar of Michigan will host a Celebrating Diversity reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. It will take place in conjunction with the SBM Annual Meeting.

The reception will acknowledge the work accomplished over the year in support of achieving greater diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. It will also serve as a follow-up to receptions at the past two annual meetings, which introduced the Michigan Pledge to Achieve Diversity and Inclusion in the Legal Profession, and announced the creation of the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee as a standing committee of the State Bar.

This year’s reception will include entertainment by Soultivity, a Washtenaw County-based all-lawyer R&B band, and a finalist in the American Bar Association’s Battle of the Lawyer Bands 2012 competition. The group performed at the ABA Annual Meeting in August. Visit SBM Blog to watch the You Tube video the band made for the ABA contest.

The reception will also feature a silent auction of 10 photographs created by high school students in the West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology youth program. Net proceeds from the auction will benefit the WMCAT program and the Access to Justice Fund, which supports civil legal aid for the poor in Michigan.
