The State Bar of Michigan Domestic Violence Committee is offering an in-person training on Trauma Informed Practice. As a result of the unfortunate fact that domestic violence occurs in at least 25% of all relationships, chances are you will have clients that are survivors of domestic violence or other trauma. This training will focus on how trauma can impact your practice and the key elements of trauma informed practice, including how you can be aware of trauma and understand how a traumatic experience can affect a person's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive functioning. Attorneys attending the training are encouraged to accept a pro bono family law case from a local legal services provider within six months of the training.

The training will be provided by Ashley Lowe, J.D., chief executive officer of Lakeshore Legal Aid, and Dr. Johanna Soet Buzolits, PhD, psychologist and a project director at the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board.
