Speakers

Prof Alexander A. Reinert represented Javaid Iqbal in his lawsuit against John Ashcroft from the trial court through to SCOTUS. His research since then has included the impact of the Iqbal decision on federal litigation and he has found that the plausibility pleading standard adopted in Bell Atlantic v. Twombly and Iqbal has had a significant impact in the civil rights and employment law areas. Through the Federal Judicial Center, he has trained federal judges on evaluating pleadings under the Iqbal/Twombly standards. He also continues to litigate civil rights cases, primarily representing people confined in jails and prisons

Judge Judith E. Levy was the chief of the civil rights unit at the MIED USAO until she was appointed to United States District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan in March of 2014. In addition to having considerable experience dealing with pleadings both as a prosecutor of civil rights cases and as a judge, she also has taught topics in civil rights law at the University of Michigan for many years.

Robin Wagner, moderator and organizer of the panel, is an associate at Pitt McGehee Palmer & Rivers, a law firm specializing in employment discrimination and civil rights law. She is also the secretary of the Civil Rights Law Section for the National FBA.

The event is FREE, however donations will be accepted. Attendees should register online by March 15. After that date, please email fbamich@fbamich.org to ensure there is room as we expect a large crowd.
